The run to the 2014 Stanley Cup came to an end on June 14, 2014. The talented LA Hockey team won their 2nd championship in 3 years, and the Silver and Black (not to be confused with the Oakland Football team) has basically cemented their status as the gold standard in the National Hockey League (NHL).
The win was clinched by Alec Martinez's goal in double overtime (2OT), which made him the 17th player to clinch a Stanley Cup in overtime.
An honorable mention should be given to the New York hockey team, Blue and Red, who put up a valiant effort during this intense series. At times it was definitely closer than you might have realized. My guess is that there were some fans who thought there was going to be a party like in 1994, but the truth is, LA was too much to handle and they really elevated their game to another level. With their exceptional talent, when they were on top of their game, they produced a special brand of hockey that mixed a few things, size, physical play, speed and skill. During the regular season, they may not have had the best record, however, watching the way this team played in the playoffs, any hockey fan would admit, they were the best, well rounded team in the NHL. If you take a look at the players they have signed to long-term contracts, and the fact that most of them are still in the prime of their careers, it is possible that this is not the last time we see the mighty LA Silver and Black hockey team, going deep into the summer and hoisting the cup
