Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Russell Wilson, Tom Brady and others will definitely disagree with this, but on Sunday, we will know who won the 49th Super Bowl, and we won't really care.
The Super Bowl is about so much more than just the game these days, or has it always been that way?
It's the theatre of it all, the media day, the commercials and of course the halftime show. There is so much anticipation surrounding the game that we just had to write and reflect about it.
From the "dumbest query ever made on stage" to Bono's post 9/11 performance. Do yourself a favor, take a few minutes to read, check out and watch them all! You do not want to skim through this blog post.
Here are, literally, the best media days, funniest commercials and most awesome half time shows in Super Bowl history:
3) January 1989: Before the Super Bowl between the 49ers and Bengals, a Japanese reporter asked one of the game’s starting quarterbacks how he got the nickname Boomer. Normally, that would be OK, but he asked Joe Montana, and not Boomer Esiason! Pretty embarrassing!
2) January 1999: The Falcons' cornerback Ray Buchanan wore a spiked dog collar to media day. This was a statement to all of the non-believers out there. He made this statement to let them know that he wasn't afraid to be considered the underdog. Denver was favored by 7.5 points and won by 15.
1) Super Bowl XXII - 1988: As the legend has it, there were a bunch of reporters huddled around Redskins quarterback Doug Williams in San Diego and one the infamous question was asked: "How long have you been a black quarterback?" History regarded that query as "the dumbest query ever made on this stage", which is really saying something!
