The Royals now advance to play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It is a best of 5 series and it begin Thursday night, first pitch set to be thrown at 9:07PM (EST).
It was a wild game to say the least and the Athletics had their chances but could not close it out. The Royals showed a lot of fight, the had a lot of clutch hit and they simply did not quit.
In the top of the 12th, the Athletics scored a run to go ahead but in the bottom of the 12th inning, Salvador Perez, who was 0-5, came up to the plate, singled home the winning run with two outs. That capped two late comebacks and gave Kansas City a thrilling 9-8 victory.
"That's the most incredible game I've ever been a part of," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "Our guys never quit. We fell behind there in the fifth inning, sixth inning. They kept battling back. They weren't going to be denied. It was just a great game."
Unfortunately for the A's, it was another postseason loss. They haven't won a playoff series since sweeping Minnesota in the 2006 ALDS.
